Can Rabbit Renegades Reach the Stars?
At BackyardBunnyNews, we help people who want to raise rabbits and bunnies by collating information about the hare-raising experience.
For youth, raising rabbits can be an affordable and fun hobby. A rabbit show is a fun and educational way to introduce young people to the rewarding hobby of raising and showing animals. The Rabbit Renegades rabbit show club organizes regional events, bringing people from other states to Mattoon, Illinois, for a day of showing. The club is sponsored by KC Summers and Rural King and receives grant money from the Mattoon Tourism Fund.

The rabbit show brought together rabbit breeders from around the country to share their passion for rabbits and their unique personalities. The American Rabbit Breeders Association sanctioned the event, and organizers estimated there were over 40 different breeds represented. They included rare breeds like the American Sable and Silver Fox, as well as more common breeds like Rex and Mini Rex. The show was attended by a number of kids and their families. Some breeders were also in attendance, including the breeders of the Mini Rex and Florida White rabbits.
The show featured over 2,500 rabbits from 130 exhibitors, and proceeds benefitted the Kentucky Youth Quad and the Lawrence County 4-H Rabbit Club. It featured numerous specialty shows, as well as four all-breed youth shows. There were nearly three thousand entries in total, and exhibitors and participants came from as far as Illinois, Missouri, and Indiana to compete in the show.
